HOLLY KINCANNON, Assoc AIA
My design career has been informed by the elegant environments that I have worked within. As beautiful as they are, historic properties often demand a high level of construction detailing, as well as sensitivity to the competing programmatic forces. They are settings with complex conditions, and have pushed me to study and adapt.
An inspiration that has also powered my career is the desire to bridge the worlds of traditional architecture, and contemporary life with modern craft and art. I prefer not to choose stylistically, but to make decisions that are grounded in a project’s moment, polemic and financials.
What’s more, I have worked as a design lead or project manager on institutional and public projects. I have committed years to being a mason and a studio artist. These combined experiences have made it comfortable for me to work as a team member, as a purist when precision is needed, but also… as a poet when my own voice is essential.
