BILL OF RIGHTS, AZ STATE CAPITOL

The Arizona Bill of Rights Monument is a public art installation commissioned by the Foundation Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and display of our national Bill of Rights. Located on a plaza hillside directly across from the Arizona State Capitol, the  site lends itself to an expansive view. The principal designer,  Joseph Kincannon, has created ten monoliths of varying organic shapes to be placed along the highest ridge, and within a landscape designed by project manager, Holly Kincannon.  The monolith surfaces will undulate and the text of the Ten Amendments will be inscribed along the contours. The appearance of the natural limestone will be only slightly manipulated  to explore textures often found within a soft desert setting. Through this sculptural technique the ruggedness of the stone and the sense of it’s permanence will be maintained. With the use of ornamental grasses, native trees and a bold abstraction of the stone, the Kincannon’s hope to invoke the  primal grandeur of Arizona’s natural wonders.
