HOLLY KINCANNON, Assoc AIA
My design career has been informed by the elegant environments that I have worked within. As beautiful as they are, historic properties often demand a high level of construction detailing, as well as sensitivity to the competing programmatic forces. They are settings with complex conditions; and have pushed me to study and adapt.
Because I aspire to bridge traditional architecture with contemporary life and art, I prefer not to think stylistically, but to make decisions grounded in a project’s ambient architecture, the preservation moment, and likely financial impacts.
Regarding my process? I’ve worked as the design lead and project manager on both public and private projects, mostly institutional and high-end residential. I have been the chair or lead in various urban design and community advocacy settings and I have trained as a craftsperson. These combined experiences and scale-jumps have allowed me to work comfortably as a team member, a purist when precision is required, or as a poet when my own voice is essential.
