CITY HEARTH, ZILKER PARK

Conceived as a performance space and winter garden, the proposed City Hearth project is located in Austin Texas, at Zilker Park. Every year folks gather around a spiraling tree of Christmas lights hung on the beloved Moon Tower. This public plaza is designed to extend the winter celebrations including six fire rings with moveable seating for story telling, a rising stone ramp that encircles the whole of the plaza thus producing undercroft space for vendors, but also providing a dynamic stage for performers.  The overall geometry of the site is inspired by the astronomy of a lunar and solar eclipse. With the big Texas sky acting as the canopy, the City Hearth Plaza is forecasted to be a place of wonderment and star gazing.
