BARNETT

This memorial bench was commissioned by the University of Texas, Austin to celebrate the life of a former architectural student.  The bench is located at the Architecture School in the center of it’s courtyard.  Working closely with Prof. Nicole Wiedermann, Mr. Kincannon looked to Tracy’s Barnett’s architectural drawings for inspiration and conceptual direction. In class, Ms. Barnett had designed a project that featured a series of dynamic light projections with rays of lights casting down in angular forms.  Le Corbusier’s quote, ” Passion can create drama out of inert stone” was choosen for it’s transformative meaning.  Also, important to the project is the aesthetic pairing with another bench in the courtyard designed by Ms. Kincannon for Prof. Kent Butler. That memorial may be viewed in the Funerary Arts section of this website.
