GOVERNOR ANN RICHARDS

Governor Ann Richards Memorial is located in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Texas. Commissioned by the Richards’ family, and working closely with Robert Smith, Architect, Joseph Kincannon designed and carved this lovely memorial. Core to the design was a need to articulate the singular quality of Governor Richard’s personality, her acceptance of new ideas and her ability to break with conventions. There was also a desire to create a place where the public could come and lay down a memento, so the height of the memorial was designed at altar height. The material carved is a domestic white marble. Mr. Kincannon’s artful response has established itself in the hearts of many as distinct and beloved, as was the good Governor.
